History
Dominican SLMP student Julia Monczunski wanted to explore in depth the power of collaboration between school librarians and teachers to benefit student learning. With Director of the Reading Specialist Program & MAED Division Chair Penny Silvers, Julia co-founded a professional reading group called "Examining Literacy." As a collaboration of Dominican University's School of Education and Graduate School of Library and Information Science, the group had five meetings during the 2012-2013 school year. In part her final project for LIS 716 Leadership & Strategic Communication and in part a culminating project of her time at Dominican, Julia planned & carried out a panel discussion that featured a middle school librarian and two colleagues for an audience of GLSLIS and SOE students and faculty, as well as a few practitioners in the field.
These important collaborative projects are being continued on by current GSLIS students. The Examining Literacy Book Group is now coordinated by Rebekah McFarland. Jamie Winchell is coordinating the panel discussion and created this website for her LIS 716 final project.
